I'm a week late to this but I just wanna draw attention to the way that media narrative cycles work. see how they (1) glorify a simplistic misrepresentation of some ideal, which (2) some people then obsess over unhealthily to their detriment, then (3) glorify the inverse

For the past several years, @MarieKondo has been preaching minimalism. But now, interiors packed with colour, patterns, and clutter are all the rage. Mireille Silcoff makes a case for the maximalist home here: thewalrus.ca/more-is-more-t 1/5 #HomeDesign

it's manic. it's obsessive. it's searingly oversimplistic, binary, dichotomous. the media (in aggregate) is incentivized to take a sensible person and portray them as an extremist, and then subsequently prop up some inverse extremist as the solution. it's like yoyo crash dieting
