sometimes, occasionally, I kind of wish I could be motivated by money, or had more of an intrinsic motivation to pursue it. I have to try and come up with elaborate tricks to persuade myself of things, and they seldom stick because it's too many steps

the most elegant formulation I've gotten yet is, if I make more money I can support my friends. that's the best one yet
but even then a part of my brain is like "eh, you can probably figure out higher leverage ways to support your friends"

Totally possible. First step is figuring out what you current associate with money. Question that helped me - If Money was a person and sat down on a chair in front of you what attributes would you assign to it?

Hah I actually got that exercise from a book called Money Magic written by Michelle Masters...seems like there are a few people who've worked in this area
