may need to become obsessed with micronutrient deficiencies and food sensitivities for awhile next

heavily processed food is one thing but someone told me once that for various reasons even fresh raw ingredients are less nutritious than they used to be - i forget the details but that's a haunting prospect 😬 is everyone malnourished all the time or what

part of the story i remember hearing is that this might be a contributor to the obesity epidemic too - if all food is less nutritious you have to eat too many calories to get enough micronutrients 😬😬😬

i ate 4 pieces of salmon sashimi as part of dinner tonight and i legitimately feel a little body high right now which is fucking crazy. google says salmon is high in "vitamins B3, B5, B6, B12, vitamin D, vitamin E and selenium." hmm

I wrote an essay about an extremely interesting theory of the obesity epidemic that I came across. Read a history of fad diets, how croissants can help you lose weight, and details about squirrel hibernation and mania you never knew you needed to know:

8 tend to be pretty skeptical here, because most arguments tend to devolve to a esthetic arguments. Appeals to nature and all that jazz.

Short answer: yes.
Long answer: it's complicated
For instance:
Magnesium depletion in crop soil is a serious unspoken of issue. We barely get any comparative to a century ago.

A trick I learned is that chlorophyll has magnesium in it and it's also what gives greens their color
So literally find green stuff and eat it to fix magnesium deficiency

yes? 😬
depleted soil from industrial ag and higher-yield varieties selected for size and non-uniqueness mean poorer nutrition
also read recently that increasing CO2 levels could be contributing

plus GMOs are bred to contain more anti-nutrients bc it makes them more robust and— surprise— harder to digest

This is my pet theory on why people are obese:
Surprise! It's because they're starving
