I am now experiencing what it's like to have a bunch of rationalist commentariat say with confidence that my experience isn't real and say they're not interested until they see randomized controlled trials It's hilarious Like, aren't you... curious?

it's a bit tricky. from their pov you're a rando who was selected for having an extremely unusual and relevant story and most of those stories really do turn out to be exaggerations or lies etc. from my pov you're a friend. i genuinely have much stronger evidence than they do

and it's not just b/c i know you and have a sense of your character and am sympathetic to the possibility that psychedelics can do this sort of thing, it's also because from my pov you weren't cherry-picked at all and from theirs you were heavily heavily cherry-picked

i get it, but their confidence about priors that lead them to be skeptical is what's funny to me for example, scott said it wasn't neurogenesis because neurogenesis doesn't occur in adult humans -- he's super wrong, specifically it does in olfaction

like, if your prior is low that psychedelics can have striking and idiosyncratic effects on your nervous system, that's your problem dude, not mine
