hello random person on the internet: this tweet is directed to you personally. please unfollow 5 accounts whose tweets consistently make you angry (if they all make you angry unfollow the 5 largest accounts you follow), then take a drink of water and go for a short walk. thx

something kinda clicked for me: once in a rare while I get a reply or QT that seems "off" in a distinct way... and I never had a model for it that made sense to me until now: I think some people feel that random tweets etc on the internet are directed to them personally

It's not "This person's tweets make me angry at *them*" it's "This person's tweets remind me to be angry at our mutual outgroup". It's a lot harder/less obvious to unfollow someone for posting things you agree with, but sometimes very good to do so.

The tricky thing is that it's not their tweets—it's things that they liked, so I don't really notice who's making them appear on my feed half the time. (I do use the "show less of this" when I see a bad tweet, which hopefully helps.)

I recommend the "newest first" timeline. Every time I see "so and so liked a tweet", I know Twitter has moved me back to their algorithmic feed, and I switch back.
