curious how people feel about this - I like to give everyone a chance to arrive and introduce themselves and acknowledge each other but maybe it feels too artificial?

How do people feel about "let's all go around in a circle to introduce ourselves a bit" things at (online or physical) events? To me they feel like the kind of thing that's done due to convention but would actually be better to skip in general but maybe others feel differently?

i do agree with richard that something seems specifically nice about everyone getting to hear everyone else's voices early in the event

something good happens when everyone gets a chance to speak soon after arrival. seems to invite conviviality + participation. on the other hand a long round of intros (10+?) is buzzkill. in some contexts it works to do small group intros, like form a triad and answer a cool Q.
