in case people are still confused, last night i got something like a dozen DMs from people, maybe half of them strangers, being like "thank you for writing the money thread," several "i'm in this position too and it's so hard to talk about" that's who i write these threads for

looking at the quote tweets is quite illuminating – some people assume he wants people to feel sorry for him, which doesn't seem apparent to me at all others seem to assume that it didn't occur to him to keep those thoughts private, when it's obviously a deliberate choice

it's the same response i get when i talk about gender and sex stuff too. "oh, thank fuck someone is talking about this." that's the good stuff it's an unfortunate fact about twitter that to reach these people i also have to reach people who will not be helped at all

ideally the tweets would somehow only be shown to people it would help and not people who are like trying to get money for medical bills or whatever and just absolutely don't need to hear about my problems. that's not how twitter works tho ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

probably i wouldn't be getting ratio'd right now if i'd said "a lot of money" instead of $100k but the specific amount was important to the story imo. it was an obscene amount of money and that's why it was paralyzing

like i didn't get into this in the thread but the $100k trivialized my attempts at making money by comparison. i've made on the order of a few thousand dollars tutoring and coaching which is the work i'm most proud of. that is *two orders of magnitude* less. fucking nuts

Lmfaooo I wish I could give everyone money. But I can’t do that so I’ve decided to give no one money. I will keep it all to myself but only because I’m paralyzed by choice. I actually have too much empathy, really. I am just too good of a person

my god. you don't pick between them. you don't play robber barron god picking the people worthy of your pennies. you put that money towards changing the systems that lead to this grotesque inequality in the first place.

if any of this anguish you're claiming was even remotely real, you'd be working towards changing the structures that caused it, or at least investigating *how* to change those structures-- but no, you're whining about there being too many gofundmes, because that gives you an out.
