tbh at first i had a visceral negative response to QC's thread which totally comes from growing up up poor and has nothing to do with him. once i got over myself i was in awe of the honesty and honest introspection in that thread and yours. it learned a lot and i am grateful

I feel bad for you; you got an offer you couldn’t refuse — precisely because you didn’t know any better. As adults, your *parents* did; & they chose to make love so transactional, that even now, the stakes for you are not your own potential and talent, but their retirement.

I’m glad acidQC recognized your potential: just write. It’s not transactional or conditional. It’s growth. Like any plant or animal. You have a right to grow. If you’re lucky in anything it’s that you got to skip the abusive jobs part to get to punchline: money is never worth it.

Not saying caroline30 is saying this. But there’s a general meme or point of view that “first world problems” don’t matter or that if your life is financially better than others you shouldn’t worry because of comparison, but in some ways these are the things that matter more!

Yes we need a baseline of sustance, security and basic human needs. But people should be seeking to self actualise. You may only have one worry when you’re starving but we should aim for excellence not just better in comparison. It sucks people have hard life’s.
