a few days ago i took a medium dose of acid and wrote for several hours straight and admitted some things to myself, mostly about money let's start here: last august my mom gave me $100,000 for my birthday. i resented her for this and also suppressed the resentment

thanks a lot for sharing QC i’m curious to know if you have any thoughts on this proposition that’s been rolling around in my head for a while and seems relevant: “any adult who is capable of taking care of themself ought to take care of themself.”

true, most all of the words and phrases i consider to describe what I have in mind are pretty loaded, we could dance around meanings for a while. maybe eli5 gets to the heart of it: “for the good of society, if you can make enough money to take care of yourself, you should.”

the word "can" is still doing a lot of work here (also "should"). there's really a lot wrapped up in the question of what it means to say you can or can't do something. like, to be explicit, it's not at all clear whether i "can" hold down a full-time job

i don't have any physical disabilities preventing me from doing that but i do have... uh... a lot of trouble being a productive employee, in my experience. am in some sense disabled? should i be treated as such? no idea

agreed on “can,” that can shift around as well based on factors like environment, illness, person-job fit your employee troubles are really surprising to me, though of course i’m operating off of not that much information - your podcasts with eigen mostly

Here’s some mentorship. Life’s fucking hard and sometimes you gotta do shit you don’t want to do to get by. If mooching off your folks bothers you enough, stop doing it. If it doesn’t bother you, at least have the sense to not be embarrassingly self-indulgent in public.

With the amount of money you have it would be really good for you to get some therapy, so you can work on your issues surrounding money and also why you can't keep a job. And well, you should get a job, so your parents will be able to retire.
