"died by suicide" is the creepiest fucking term to me, it seems like at some point in the last few years everyone coordinated on this as the new way to say "k*lled themselves" and ngl i hate how it switches from active to passive voice and removes the dead person's agency

people donโt wanna say โcommit suicideโ because that implies itโs a sin and that feels disrespectful. some people say โcompleted suicideโ which isnโt as bad as the passive phrasing but it kinda sounds weird

the latter is on purpose; i remember a while ago when i was obsessed with reading about death / suicide and one of the things i read was about how to talk about it while subtly pathologizing it in that sort of way and not giving information about how someone k-worded themselves.

All good and moral systems allow for exit, and those in the system should honor those who choose it

Systems generally try to prevent people from leaving because the ones that do outcompete the ones that donโt, most often by call preventing them from leaving โsaving themโ. We should be cognizant of this in all our systems (religion, schooling, the ratrace, awareness, etc)

similar but different different point made in das leben der anderen, where suicides were categorized as โself-murderโ in the ddr.
