screenshots are an outrageously load-bearing part of modern internet infrastructure currently the best way to port posts between sites even though it makes their text unsearchable and doesn’t generate a link back to original this is dumb and we should be able to do better

maybe we should be thinking about posts as objects that exist independent of particular sites (i stole this idea from someone and i forgot who although it is sort of implicit in the mother of all demos) and sites as embodying choices for how to display and interact with posts

I'm so, so, so excited to see where this goes, for the reasons the OP outlines! We've long noted that a deep failing of most modern operating systems (and software built on them) is an inability to self-reference , and the hope is to build a deeply self-referential machine
