Yes, as far as I know you either need someone from a research institution to vouch for you or you need an email address from e.g. a university

im learning this for the first time, its pretty chill but not as chill as i'd like. you either need an institution affiliated email or "an endorsement from an established arXiv author", which is easy bc there are like 100,000s of established authors. i can endorse lol
