Maybe a little less shocking but still kinda wild; did you know "emoticon" and "emoji" aren't etymologically related? "Emoji" is just literally the Japanese word 絵文字 ("e" = picture, "moji" = letter)

The scholarly version is so dry, it’s kind of wonderful in an odd way that racist Greeks thousands of years ago, mocking how foreigners talked, has come down to modern language unchanged It’s like if I called Norwegians Ingabingaians and people still used it in the year 4000
