there’s this big gap in my music theory education. i took ~two music theory classes in college: harmony and counterpoint, and a dope class called “music after 1960” with a lot of avant garde atonal stuff in it. but i don’t think i got a good grounding in like jazz harmony

was confused by the F#m7 going to a F#m7b5, until I realized it's enharmonic with an A6 to Am6, which makes it basically a standard IV - iv - I cadence in disguise

oh is IV - iv - I a standard cadence? i had no idea! but it voice leads and sounds great so checks out. is the iv here to be interpreted as borrowing from minor? i was trying to interpret it as some kind of wacky secondary and getting real confused

Seems like it modulates to A (F#m), and at the end it uses F#m’s b5 (C) to smoothly lead back to E’s fifth.
