hmm okay. i agree that baelish and cersei were pursuing their own agendas as they see fit. for me a big part of what i was getting at in the original thread was the idea of a story in which every character is explicitly prosocial but things get tremendously fucked anyway

I think GRRM has a kinda subversive message, showing the straightforward selfishness of e.g. Tywin as working out much better for the world than the possibly prosocial idealism of say Danaerys or Ned. Burkean or something
