feeling a little defensive here - can you be more clear about whether this is "I’m uncomfortable with the content and exploring why" or whether this is "critique"? for me these are two very different activities and equivocating between them feels bad to me

(the difference is that for me personally i don't "endorse" my discomforts until i've explored them pretty thoroughly - usually i assume they're pretty idiosyncratic to me and my hangups and i wouldn't call any of them "critiques" *ahead of time*)

tbc, i think critique is fine and i think exploring your discomforts is also fine, the equivocation is what has me feeling defensive

I’m saying “I’m uncomfortable...” and it was read generously as a critique, less generously as mockery. I get the sense that critique gets understood as mockery especially if it’s not from the in-group, based on a previous experience where I accidentally tripped the same switch

ah, okay. i mean you in particular criticize a lot of things very publicly that you feel uncomfortable about, and the rationalists in particular attract a lot of critique that is mostly mockery, so... that reaction makes sense to me i guess 😬
