this guy Oleg Vladimirovich Losev invented LEDs decades before everybody else (in the 1920s) but nobody cared. he was a lonely nerd with no co-authors. wrote to einstein but didn't get a reply web.archive.org/web/2011051113

Imagine if Hardy had never found Ramanujan? How many more Olegs and Ramanujans are floundering in loneliness and obscurity RIGHT NOW? The number cannot be zero. And if there’s even one such person in the world I want to find them. That’s my purpose

now we get to my favorite part of Ramanujan's story, and if I'm not careful I'm going to start crying Ramanujan's new peers encouraged him to write to mathematicians in Britain a bunch of them dismissed and disregarded him Except for one man: Godfrey Harold Hardy
