visa’s style of doing history threads is so good it’s my template for how i would teach a history class if i ever had to. no set curriculum, just “pick a thing you think is cool and look up its history to find out what went into it,” present that info somehow, repeat

if students do this enough they’ll organically find that the trails they travel through history intersect - at WWII, for example. the intersections would be particularly easy to notice if you took notes in roam. each student ends up with a personalized ontology of history

eg: in the pop magic thread i ended up at pulp fiction, which had its roots in the great depression. in addition to being a huge influence on fantasy and sf it was also a huge influence on superhero comics, so there’s a direct line from here to eg marvel movies
