it was VERY early
2000 was the year canon's first own DSLR was introduced, up till then it was kodak modifying film bodies
nikon introduced its first own DSLR in 1999
there were already plenty of point and shoots but still

yeah makes sense. having trouble pinning down an exact date but looks from wikipedia like camera phones were also not much of a thing in 2000 and gradually became more of a thing over the next decade, that also feels v relevant
The iPhone was released in 2007, you can pretty much work out the history of camera phones from that point on
