so actually the NFT use case that makes the most sense to me so far is NFT nudes. insofar as the NFT architecture imposes artificial scarcity on top of infinitely copyable information, at least an NFT nude gets to be like âthis is the special copy thatâs just for you big boy đâ

generally, and speaking only for my hangups, i am quite uncomfortable about the whole concept of selling digital information - ebooks, art, music, etc. with the exception of commissions. i believe pretty strongly in âinformation wants to be freeâ. NFTs are... the opposite?

to me there is something really special about the infinite copyability of digital information. i think we donât have good funding models yet for producers of such information (writers, artists, musicians). NFTs feel to me like a step backward, like DRM

what iâd like to see instead is a compelling theory of digital economics that builds in infinite copyability as a foundational assumption from the outset. how do people capture enough of the value of their digital products to make a living without imposing artificial scarcity?

i think the model that feels least bad to me right now may be the patreon model - where people arenât paying for individual products, theyâre paying to support you as a creator. that makes sense to me and doesnât require scarcity; you can just not have any patron-only content

Bounties for the creation of new things comes to mind as a recurring thought I have in this space

An artist might say "once this pool reaches $X I will make my next album"
Or you might pool some money for people writing that book idea you always wanted, etc

The basic model is the same, but the framing as a product that needs to be made, with the expectation of stretch goals is a bit different than say "I can work on my album full time if I get $X"
Logistically the platforms kind of exist, it's more of a social coordination problem
an unfortunate thing about kickstarter is that "create the thing then use kickstarter for pre-orders" outcompetes using it before creating the thing. not that this will be different though
