so actually the NFT use case that makes the most sense to me so far is NFT nudes. insofar as the NFT architecture imposes artificial scarcity on top of infinitely copyable information, at least an NFT nude gets to be like “this is the special copy that’s just for you big boy 😘”

Is artificial scarcity bad? People who don’t want to pay get access to the thing and people who do want to pay also get access to the thing.

idk i feel conflicted about it. i have the same feeling of conflict about artificial scarcity in video games - like games where you can pay real money for special gear or whatever. it feels like a particularly degenerate form of rent-seeking

the NFT nude example actually feels different to me bc... i guess i interpret the meaning of the scarcity differently in that case. it’s not like “this is the only real / official copy” but like “this is the copy i am choosing to sell, to you, dear simp 😘”

ok maybe this is how artists are thinking about it? i could maybe see the case for an indirect patronage thing, where someone who buys NFT artwork is doing it to establish a connection to the artist; i did hear someone point out that it’s a kind of bet on the artist

I know little about NFT but it appears to be a tool so it is neither Good nor Bad
