if you read the full quote I think what he’s saying does describe a shift in the mainstream industry/scene, and it’s really unfair how everyone just latches on to the first sentence of what was presumably a rather intimate interview (as all Zane Lowe’s interviews tend to be)

i missed this discourse but is he talking about boy bands or what (i refuse to believe maroon 5 werent engineered)

i haven’t listened to the interview for more context but i’d guess he’s talking about a way the industry has shifted away from “bands” towards individual artists as sort of the fundamental unit, something like that?

yea like when I was a teenager everyone wanted to start a band. these days everyone wants to do a startup. there are of course always still band nerds, thank god, but shifts are shifts. Like there are still weird sun Twitter accounts but it’s not as it was
