It really peeves me when a doctor, PT, or teacher of some kind is like "I'm not a [doctor/PT/teacher of X]."
E.g. guitar teacher says "I'm not a doctor" when I talk about pain/discomfort. What the fuck, dude? You think a doctor knows enough about guitar to help with this?

this is mostly a legal liability dodge afaict. heâs not making any object-level claims about his abilities, he just doesnât want to get sued

It's still frustrating and obnoxious for me. I think the WAY it's said matters too
One thing to be like "Of course I'm not a doctor [knowing look], but I think XYZ." Another to sort of squirm away from the whole issue

The thing is part of what I'm looking for in a teacher is to FEEL supported in the project. This shit undermines that, a lot.

what feels undermining about it?

I hear it as "When it comes this, you're on your own."

"Don't talk to me about this."

ah gotcha so itâs the part where they subsequently donât even comment. can you try being like âitâs fine i donât need an authoritative opinion here just gimme your best guess, i wonât hold you to itâ?

That's a good idea. Might try it next time
It doesn't feel like it'll cut to the heart of the matter. I may also want a thing that almost doesn't exist or that's just very hard to find, which is highly competent teaching that's also hmmm nurturing (??). So compromise, maybe

I think a lot of people in my life (almost everyone) has been dismissive of my subtle nebulous hard-to-pin-down discomforts and hesitations and questions.
This is an instance of that it seems like
