sounds obvious but one of the things that makes a good writer is they build sentences from novel arrangements of words instead of assembling familiar phrases

i actually like the image! for me it evokes this figure-ground inversion where i think of the empty space of the hallway as an active participant in the opening of the door, like it was alive and she needed its cooperation
