I wish there was a way to effectively gauge and compare the feelings of Australians vs the feelings of Americans towards Britain.
One inhabited by the descendants of those who were unwillingly torn from their homeland, the other by those who deliberately fought to separate.

i’m not exactly a median american but i have approximately no feelings about britain. studied abroad at cambridge for a year and it was nice, that’s about it

this is incredibly interesting to me. I suppose my first step should really be to see what other Australians think of Britain (mostly they seem to laugh at it) but I'm always shocked when Americans express indifference towards Britain.

i guess it’s also worth clarifying that i don’t feel like “identified” with america at all, like the facts of the revolutionary war or w/e mean nothing to me on an emotional level. we moved here so my dad could work at hewlett-packard 😅

Do you feel more towards any other places on the globe? Or towards specific places in America, in lieu of America as an idea?

the places i feel the strongest attachment to are bellevue, WA (middle school, high school) and boston (college). nothing bigger than a city, and in practice small slices of those cities that i am nostalgic about
