if you think your nervous system is overtaxed and upregulated now, imagine how it will feel when you no longer have the ectodermic containment of your skin as a semipermeable boundary

i am maybe unusual in regarding long-time following as an intimate thing to do. i often experience other people’s tweets as happening inside me in some sense; they sort of enter my head the same way my own thoughts do. this is a lot of power to give someone! twitter.com/parafactual/st…

what you describe has been my experience too, QC
i experience quite a lot of permeability vis-à-vis the vibes + emotions of others around me, especially in person, and am learning to modulate this by knowing my selfness so i have that support underneath relating to others

skin, by virtue of arising from the same embryological tissue as our nervous systems, could be thought of as an extension of them

tweet sounds dark but the resolution would be something like, can i fall into the sheltering embrace of my own skin to reestablish boundaries i may need to strengthen, but not become so cloistered that i can’t modulate this self-situatedness with my own beautiful permeability

nice! have you read some of the "highly sensitive person" literature? i'm a little skeptical of some of their framing but would guess there is good practical advice there, about energetic boundaries, etc.
yeah, the framing of that kind of thing is squiggy for me but i've been meaning to look into it
"i'M aN emPatH" is... relatable and red flaggy
i'm finding a lot of support through the somatics i explore, but i'd take recommendations if you have specific ones

i know there's a lot of pushback on the "empath" stuff these days but for real lotta people out there with a lot of sensitivity who don't have cultural narratives for respecting it or working with it, like, i get it, lotta sympathy for those folks!
