like i have worn suits in appropriate social contexts, e.g. weddings. is the question about wearing a suit day-to-day? would feel very strange to do that unless i had a very specific job that called for it 🤔
Yeah, I was thinking of day to day wear. I think you're right that there just isn't the social context for it, and I'm wondering why that might be (lockdowns aside). What do you mean by too many pieces?
all of my pre-lockdown social contexts except the monastery were pretty casual (e.g. grad school). a few people wore dress shirts in grad school but only like one professor that i can think of wore a suit. too many pieces like... a dress shirt *and* a jacket *and* a tie? boo
oh i hate the way ties feel around my neck, that's probably relevant. even when i dressed up for parties in college i took my tie off as soon as possible
more broadly i think i was sort of acculturated to "tech casual" even though i've never worked in tech - it feels normal to me to dress casually even for jobby stuff and it would feel weird to me to dress up
