i can have thoughts about the text! i can *fight* with the text!
it's easier to annotate because i can pin annotations to *exact points in the text*, up to specific words; i could e.g. take notes separately in another app like roam but that misses this tight correspondence between the text and the annotation

The best spec/plan I've ever gotten to use at work came out of a two-week async discussion on Google Docs. Most of the rest are from sync meetings and Confluence pages, and I'm convinced the medium made the difference.
