now that im almost done w Plato's Republic, im shocked... shocked that they assign this text to undergrads. i wouldn't have been able to make heads or tails of it. no wonder all my friends who read it in college hated it.

physical training would've been great yes, esp. if actually personalized and not just learning how to force my body to do things my body didn't want to do

i think for Plato it was akin to military training, like an intense group endeavor undertaken over several years to become fit and attuned to the body
