now that im almost done w Plato's Republic, im shocked... shocked that they assign this text to undergrads. i wouldn't have been able to make heads or tails of it. no wonder all my friends who read it in college hated it.

lots of stuff i was unable to understand when i read it in school b/c i didn't have any of the relevant life experiences b/c i was in school or doing hw instead 🤔🤔🤔

Plato says it in the text itself: students of philosophy should study music and physical training, then go deep into mathematics, then you can move onto dialectic around age 25-30 (the style of writing Plato was doing)

physical training would've been great yes, esp. if actually personalized and not just learning how to force my body to do things my body didn't want to do
