Remedial Chaos Theory from season 3 of Community is my favorite time story. Its unique structure reveals how each of the characters fits in with the study group - or doesn't. It's hilarious. To me it is perfect.

Inception is another favorite story that plays around with structure. A decade after its release I still think about the emotional climax often. The visual effects are flooring and the soundtrack is one of Hans Zimmer's best.

L O S T has euphoric highs and abysmal lows. The time travel aspects in particular strain to make some questionable plot choices actually make perfect sense because time travel, you see. But when it's firing on all cylinders, it's a joy to watch.

Tenet is admirable for pulling off a fascinating time travel trick, but it's emotionally empty. No reason to care about the characters is ever offered. It makes perfect sense that it's divisive.

The reveal is often the hardest part of anything that aims to delight its audience through surprise. I'm reminded of The Prestige, a movie that resolves its narrative trickery in ways that make it too clever for its own good.

A decent backward tweet thread could start/end as reviews of various time stories to hide the X/Y at the bottom and shift to/from a more general discussion of playing with structure and how it might be done in tweet threads.

How could a backward thread be surprising? The most obvious way is to structure it so that the reader doesn't realize it's a backward thread until partway through.

Some amount of effort would be required to make sure the thread makes sense both ways and is surprising when read the way it's presented otherwise what's the point!

I've seen so many creative ways of playing with the structure of a tweet thread but I've never seen a backward thread. Until now!

Stories that play around with typical story structure are transcendent when done well. They're a jolt from our rigid experience of time and they're among my favorite works of media.
