im slowly working thru Plato's Republic and it's amazing to see him gently touch on the core insights of many later philosophers' work.
last chapter alone i feel like he prefigures pieces of Freud (tripartite soul, moderating appetite) and Marx (two cities in one, rich vs poor)

presumably you’re reading a translation right? how much of that might be being inserted or framed to sound more modern by a translator?

the translator makes no claims to connections as such, this is entirely my reading, and it's not like Plato is explicitly framing things the same way as later guys did. it's just the form of the idea is there...
