wanna point out that as far as the hypothetical goes there is a huge difference between "receive a nobel prize" and "do work that is worth getting a nobel prize for" (and similarly for the money really)
i think it is actively bad for me to get a nobel prize if i haven't done commensurate work, as in i would pay negative dollars for this, i don't want to distort the meaning of the nobel prize as a signal this way

I agree about not getting it for not doing commensurate work. But if I don’t think I’ve done commensurate work and some other committee does, I’d be pleasantly surprised.
