this is not the nicest thing to do but you can mute them
they still see you’re following but now you never see their tweets
it’s actually even more of a shutout than unfollowing bc when you unfollow you might still see their tweets if your follows interact

i have a separate thing for that; a custom search engine that searches my replies, iirc it’s
“to:qiaochuyuan -from:qiaochuyuan”
Except now, how do you silence muted threads?
