open-ended question: how do y'all feel generally about
1) paying your friends to do stuff
2) being paid by your friends to do stuff?
comfortable? awkward? feels like it makes the friendship messier? feels like it enriches the friendship? never tried it? something else?

realizing the original question was super open-ended - based on replies it seems to matter whether itâs short-term vs. long-term, something they / you already do professionally vs. not, ânormal friend stuffâ (e.g. moving) vs. not

thereâs an interesting undercurrent in some replies that bringing money into a friendship makes it âtransactionalâ or otherwise dirties it somehow. lotta interesting stuff going on there i think. gets at fundamental beliefs about what money is and how good vs. evil it is

the workplace and the boss-employee relationship is imo a locus of immense suffering, much of it unacknowledged, so not surprising that a lot of the bad vibes of that can carry over into any situation where money changes hands. my guess at one contributing factor
