my personal take is S2 is sort of maybe closer to a natural category and S1 is totally fake, it’s literally just “everything else”

i basically with kaj on type 1 and type 2
and I think that when people read about s2, they're mostly tracking either their ego mind or particular explicit normative models of reason that are runs as type 2 processes
