you ever get emotional at scenes in a book where a character just like. stays over at someone’s place. for a while. and it’s just not a big deal? they just house em and feed em and no money changes hands and this is just normal?

Spent a lot of my youth hitch-hiking and what is now-a-days called couch surfing. We had a rule of thumb, that any visitor was a guest for 2 days and on the 3rd you were part of the family... and expected to start engaging in chores, cooking, cleaning, etc. Worked wonderfully.
