The second part of all of this: where do I want to get to?
Quote Tweet
So: If I’m looking for where I’m at, and where I want to get to… where am I at? 5 types of income. All of them are limited, and take a huge amount of hustle to *get* the work for any one of them, let alone all 5 (if I wanted to get by on combinations).

I could throw out a bunch of specific shit I’d like in my life, but if I winnow it down, what do I really want for my next, let’s say 10-20 years? -work worth doing. -enough money to provide for my family and to provide whatever possible cushioning for future/retirement

-a life that is not entirely centered on making money—time in the day for spiritual and relational pursuits. (Which seems like it requires the parts of my life that *are* about money to bring in *a lot* of money, relative to time invested)

The path I see a lot of people taking is to attempt to monetize their spiritual practice, their relational advice, their religious views, etc. Become a meditation teacher, give paid talks on X, sell books on your own variation of a particular technique or modality, etc.

Like I said in the last thread, I’m v uncomfortable with that. I’m fine with linking money to teaching—but not with *depending* economically on teaching and coaching and speaking. So that’s not even like, a ~dream~ I’d like to move toward.

Not to mention that I’ve seen quite a lot of a pattern where people start teaching/coaching a thing, and then… get way too attached to it. Even when problems become evident. As if moving past it, admitting its limitations, would be too damaging to your reputation (& income).
