you ever get emotional at scenes in a book where a character just like. stays over at someone’s place. for a while. and it’s just not a big deal? they just house em and feed em and no money changes hands and this is just normal?

at my old place we hosted visiting friends for a few days but we had a house policy for charging if someone stayed longer than like... 2 weeks i think?
i get why we had it (countering tragesy of the commons) but still something a little sad about it

i stayed over at a friend’s place in boston for 2 weeks once and i think i felt like i was annoying them towards the end but we didn’t know how to talk about it and it just felt bad
didn’t help that it was their parents’ place 😬

really depends on the people, especially the parents :/
Some friends are nice in small doses and some parents just don't see their house as a hotel regardless of whether they like your friends or not, which is understandable

In ancient Greek culture hospitality was a solemn and
sacred duty, and for a host to harm a guest-friend
would bring divine retribution.
Many cultures develop this norm - without it travel would
be impossibly risky and dangerous.
