you ever get emotional at scenes in a book where a character just like. stays over at someone’s place. for a while. and it’s just not a big deal? they just house em and feed em and no money changes hands and this is just normal?

at my old place we hosted visiting friends for a few days but we had a house policy for charging if someone stayed longer than like... 2 weeks i think?
i get why we had it (countering tragesy of the commons) but still something a little sad about it

i stayed over at a friend’s place in boston for 2 weeks once and i think i felt like i was annoying them towards the end but we didn’t know how to talk about it and it just felt bad
didn’t help that it was their parents’ place 😬

I've been poking into revolutionary history a bit and there's a lot of "Shows up at doorstep unannounced, having been just sent into/gotten out of exile"

I've done that. My parents have done that. My grandfather has done that. Hope to do it again someday when I have more space

There's few things I want in life, but at this moment, the thing I deeply wish for is a lovely little guest house with a nice dual-monitor, no-computer desk area so that friends can come visit and work during the day, conversate at night

This is called a 'ben bayit' ('son of house') where I'm from and I have been on both the receiving and giving ends of it. Can confirm it can be very emotional
