for good reasons of course! we’re dealing with lockdown depression on top of whatever crazy shit we were dealing with before lockdown. all sorts of fears and confusions to sort through around money, careers, doing stuff, taking risks, working with other people, it’s a minefield

on top of just really concrete lack of social, emotional, financial resources; this is not something i talk about too much but i happen to be really lucky to be sitting on a decent pile of savings rn and i might as well use it to figure this money stuff out

i’ve never had a real job and i feel embarrassed about it. will that lack of experience fuck me over? probably but only way to remedy a lack of experience is to acquire experience. meanwhile you have tons of more experienced people in your network to ask for advice

what if i fuck up and it’s real bad and i disappoint a lot of people and they yell at me that could happen. try not to overpromise. start small. make small bets. do 1% thing. ask your amazing friends for advice. you’re not alone

one thing that’s helping this process feel less terrible than it would’ve been in the past is i am attempting to give myself permission to raise literally 100 objections and discard literally 100 ideas until i find something that feels good enough to execute on

Would you be more likely to give yourself enthusiastic consent if you thought of it as "I need to make money so this can turn into something sustainable", "I need money so I can spend more time doing what I love / provide a better exp for everyone else"

Is the objection to...making money from X? If not, I must have misunderstood. If yes - my point was: would thinking about money as a resource that could allow you to do X better help at all with removing the objection?

Or maybe you have lots of money accruing interest at a rate you could live off, in which case making money could be a way for you to support other projects/causes you believe in.
