i’m mostly interested in the “not having a boss” aspect 😛
I have started to think of starting your own business as diversifying over bosses as opposed to not having one. Having a customer has a very similar signature as having a boss, except you can have many at once and more easily fire ones you don’t like

Yeah "the customer is your boss" is a pretty common freelance meme. There's varying levels of not having a boss depending on how many customers you have too, which makes the diversification scheme make more sense.
If you have 3 big B2B customers, not much difference.
