the new shiny idea here for me is the explicit linking of attachment issues to epistemic behavior. something like that sort of follows from things i already believed but i didn't have a connection between them yet

This is Morris Bergman's theory in Wandering God. He calls them transitional objects to help ease the transition in the break from mother. He argues this is the root cause of modernity, civilization, hierarchy. People dealing with their need for love.
