I actually wasn't allowed to read anything like that. I was raised by Jehovah's witnesses, so it was basically Disney or mild nickelodeon for me.

oh interesting! i was raised orthodox jewish which meant (for the most part) no nickelodeon and Disney, but a few of these secular kids books were allowed, and gosh am i grateful it. seems kinda weird/arbitrary what gets past the religious filter, huh?

It really differed from year to year and from house to house. I remember I was allowed to see monsters inc at camp (it fucked me up) but not the prince of egypt because it's wasn't accurate enough to the bible

All I remember getting from monsters inc was that monsters were real. I hadn't seen alot of movies and I think I had a hard time diferentiating it from reality. Starting sleeping outside my parents bedroom door on the wooden floor

My father would trip over me and ask exasperatedly "what are u afraid the monster are going to do!?" I remember yelling "THEY'RE GOING TO SCARE ME"
