Rats: Emotions are irrational, you shouldn't make decisions based on them.
Also rats: Finding motivation is so hard I need a special word for how hard it is.

tbf the rats have “known,” for some value of known, about the importance of feelings since ~2015 or so but also lol yes even given that i was consistently the loudest feelings apologist around

Knowing it isn't the same as feeling it. It's easy to imagine your way into a feeling. It's nigh impossible to rationalize into one.
Fortunately, I encountered fantasy before sci-fi, so my love for hard science has always been tempered by mysterious wonder.

Rats may acknowledge emotion, but I haven't seen their literature demonstrate any particular skill at addressing it. Scott Alexander comes the closest, but I can't help but think that's because it's his day-job.

I think both that your criticism is valid/useful for the culture and also very noticed and worked on by certain corners. I think in particular the Pete+CFAR+Circling cluster was in many ways a noticing and response to this. Does that seem right ?
