putting out there as a meta comment that i used to feel vaguely gross about thinking about money in any form and was privileged enough that that didn't impact my life much and it's fun to stretch myself a bit and learn a little more about it today

the closest i ever came to really needing to care about money was trying to get an internship at jane street in... this was maybe 2016? i made it as far as flying to new york for an on-site interview but i flubbed it lol could not make good bets fast enough

the next closest was getting into crypto in 2017 for the lulz, it was fun to learn about how blockchains worked and i spent a day trading $1 worth of ETH which was helpful for building some intuitions about order books and bids and asks

Money is a hell of an interesting topic. Even weirder than stocks and other assets. Most people never think about it, like fish in water.

Superb essay from @LynAldenContact on the inevitable breakdown of global dollar dominance.
Packed with insights like this. In college 15 years ago I took many courses on US foreign policy and the invasion of Iraq, but my professors never mentioned this.
