What’s all the hype about C*-algebra and is this hype justifiable?

not sure what hype you're referring to. C*-algebras are nice and you can prove some nice things about / with them. connes has this whole program to use them to do noncommutative geometry and i don't really know anything about it

Ahh I see, well this paper earlier this year, arxiv.org/abs/2001.04383, from what I heard has kickstarted this new “hype” around C*. It’s gotten hella attention since it was a pretty landmark proof and now people are thinking what if there’s more to C*, just my two cents.
