alright just for fun: AMA but only about math, will attempt to speed-explain stuff with as few symbols and equations as possible and see what happens
(esp happy to field questions about stuff that seems basic to you and that you feel like you should've gotten a long time ago!)

maybe this is philosophical but how do you view the relationship of math to the universe? Is it a rulebook, a codebase, a set of observations, etc?
also, regarding deep learning, do you have an opinion on the math of the field?

hmm i don't have a short answer to the first Q. has a lot of good writing on this sort of thing but it only addresses that question somewhat indirectly. this is maybe not a bad place to start:
as for the second question, i mostly do not have an opinion about the mathematics of deep learning. there doesn't seem to be... very much of it yet?

Thanks! And yeah, DL so far to me is about taking helpful math from other fields and seeing if it magically works in DL or not. So I'm usually torn on whether or not I should beef up my linear alg skills in order to be more capable of experimenting with DL math or not. Thx again
