point-set topology is weird garbage but algebraic topology is sweet as hell
you have to sort of go through point-set topology as hazing to get to the good stuff

I even prefer point set topology to algebraic topology. In alg top the computations are cool but the proofs suck ass, in point set both are great.
I find measure theory/dynamical systems/geometric group theory largely cool b/c they replicate the "feel" of point set top for me...
