It might be interesting to understand more clearly why there are many physics cranks and no chemistry cranks. (I think it’s because physics gets interpreted as metaphysics and chemistry doesn’t. Due to historical confusions.)

what's your hypothesis? diagonalisation is def more like metaphysics than most maths - I'd bucket it with quotienting but it destroys categories instead of creating them

people seem to have a lot of feelings about infinity in general and i'd similarly guess it's because the infinite feels tied up with metaphysics (e.g. god)
